Darwin’s Edge Headquarters

Summit of Mount McGregor
Moreau, New York

Alexander Buffington has transformed the summit of Mount McGregor ten miles north of Saratoga Springs, where the towns of Moreau, Corinth and Greenfield intersect in the Palmertown Range, the first foothills of the Adirondacks that you encounter heading into northern Saratoga County.

Buffington has kept the four flat acres on McGregor’s summit for the views this parcel offers of the Hudson Valley and Green Mountains, Berkshires, and Taconics beyond. He’ll probably build condos there, given the skyrocketing value of mountaintop properties in face of global warming. But reconstructing the Hotel Balmoral also is a dream he still entertains. Joseph Drexel built the first Hotel Balmoral as a technological showcase, so so Buffington would do the same with his new Hotel Balmoral.

Buffington has developed the remaining 320 acres acquired from Empire State Development wholly for Darwin’s Edge. It took six long years, but the project is now complete. This is Surina’s first opportunity to really show it off to the neurotech community and all of the federal, state, county and town officials who in some way contributed to the planning, design, and construction of the new campus.

Today is Ayudha Puja, the day in the Hindu calendar that’s set aside for honoring the tools, machines, instruments, and devices that are integral to our daily lives and professions. It signifies the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and right over wrong.
